Is being able to win at Atlanta Motor Speedway critical to being a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series champion? According to the latest standings in the Chase for the Championship, that answer would appear to be yes.

With its exciting blend of speed and a racing surface forcing drivers to manhandle a car, AMS is one of the most challenging tracks in NASCAR. For that reason, a list of winners at Atlanta Motor Speedway coincides with the top drivers in NASCAR.

Atlanta Motor Speedway is no stranger to driver-owner combinations dominating the competition at one of racing's fastest and most challenging tracks.

In recent years, Carl Edwards and Roush-Fenway Racing, Bobby Labonte and Joe Gibbs Racing, Jimmie Johnson and Hendrick Motorsports and a few years before that, Jeff Gordon and Hendrick Motorsports each got on a nice roll at AMS. If a driver wanted to win at AMS during those eras, it was a known fact that the dominant driver of that time period would likely stand in the way of Victory.

It's not hard to see the signs of the changing of seasons at Atlanta Motor Speedway. From the windows of our corporate offices overlooking turn four, a nice view of the entire track is offered, which includes the tree lines on the other side of turn two and the trackside terrace. There, leaves are slowly changing color, offering a picturesque reminder of what's to come later this year at Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Next month, on Nov. 18 to be exact, we'll be starting off the Christmas season a bit early, but the view will be worth it!

Goodyear Aiding "Support Our Troops"

Monday, October 3, 2011

From now until December 3rd, Goodyear is raising funds for Support Our Troops, a nonprofit nationwide organization which helps America’s troops and their families. The funds raised through the Goodyear effort will benefit the organization’s highly effective programs, which deliver more than $10 million per year in care packs and requested items to the front lines, positive support at home, kids’ camp assistance and more.

Goodyear kicked off this program by running special "Support Our Troops" tires in the NASCAR and NHRA races the weekend of Sept. 16-18, and has included them in a special charity auction to add to the fundraising.  Don’t miss your chance to bid on auction items ranging from autographed authentic, race-used Goodyear Support Our Troops tires and other unique items donated by teams and partners by visiting auction ends on October 10th but your support of the program doesn’t have to. Earlier this season, the thought of Tony Stewart contending for the lead in the Chase for the Championship seemed off-base. Sure, the two-time champion is one of the sport's top drivers and certainly knows how to win. But as the season entered late August, Stewart hardly had the look of a championship contender.

In fact, with the way Stewart's season was going at the time - two top five finishes prior to the month of September -  some projections didn't rule out the chances of him missing the Chase all together, and Stewart even suggested that if his team were to be in the Chase, he questioned if it'd even be able to contend for a title.
