Recent Addition of Major Sponsors Shows Strength of Sport, Races at Atlanta Motor Speedway
Friday, August 29, 2003
After signing two major sponsors in the span of one week, it¿s easy to understand why Atlanta Motor Speedway President and General Manager Ed Clark has a huge grin on his face.
Clark announced last week that Bass Pro Shops and MBNA have signed for the track¿s fall race for the next four years, and Golden Corral has signed for the spring race for the next three
¿That was huge for us to find three great partners to work with to further grow what are already the two largest single-day sporting events in Georgia,¿ Clark said.
But more than that, he said all of racing should share his enthusiasm.
¿Even with the current economic climate, racing has definitely held its own,¿ Clark said. ¿Companies are obviously still seeing great returns ¿ in fact, greater than almost any other sport ¿ or else we wouldn¿t be succeeding.¿
But being able to lure three great companies ¿ including one new to racing ¿ also speaks volumes about Atlanta Motor Speedway.
¿I love Atlanta -- it¿s the best race track we run at,¿ Dale Earnhardt Jr. has said. ¿Through the race, it always seems like you always get a real close three- or four-car battle going, and they¿re always right there at the end. I love it. Whether I¿m first or 20th, I¿m having fun. I wish they could build a lot more of ¿em like this. It¿s always fun here. It¿s like this every time.¿
And companies want to be involved with that kind of thrilling racing.
¿Golden Corral is really excited to be associated with NASCAR and the Atlanta Motor Speedway for their spring race in March 2004,¿ said Bob McDevitt, Sr. Vice President of Marketing and Franchise Operations. ¿We chose the Atlanta race because the broadcast is highly rated, and it¿s always a great race because the track is so fast. We also like the fact that this race is in March, which kicks off our peak sales season. Its just a great fit.¿
Tickets for all three days of racing excitement during the Oct. 24-26 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway are on sale now. The weekend kicks off with Georgia-Pacific Qualifying Night on Friday, Oct. 24, as the fastest qualifying session in NASCAR goes under the lights. Adding to the evening¿s lineup will once again be the exciting Brawny 150 presented by Pork The Other White Meat, a 150-lap shootout with the Goody¿s Dash Series cars on the frontstretch quarter-mile track, Thunder Ring.
The action heats up on Saturday, Oct. 25, for the Aaron¿s 312 Busch Series race, showcasing the hottest up-and-coming drivers in the country. The weekend will culminate on Sunday, Oct. 26, with the running of the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500, one of the final events of the season, when every point will be at a premium.
Weekend ticket packages for the Bass Pro Shops MBNA weekend start at just $69, and single-day race tickets start at $30. For more information, call the Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office at (770) 946-4211, or call Ticketmaster.
