The NASCAR drivers will descend on Atlanta Motor Speedway next week, ready to start testing for the Oct. 24-25 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500.

NASCAR Winston Cup and Busch driver Michael Waltrip, NASCAR Busch Series driver David Green and Georgia native Buckshot Jones will all be on hand next Monday and Tuesday, testing their cars on the fastest track in NASCAR.

Waltrip¿s test will serve a dual purpose, as he will be competing in both the Oct. 25 Aaron¿s 312 and the Oct. 26 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500. Waltrip will likely test his fuel strategy next week in his Aaron¿s-sponsored Busch car, hoping to avoid the drama of last year¿s 12 extra miles in the Aaron¿s 312. Waltrip dominated last year¿s race, only to have to pit on lap 189, eventually finishing second to Jamie McMurray.

¿We usually get great gas mileage, but not that day,¿ Waltrip said. ¿That¿s what is so exciting about the drama of 12 extra miles in the Aaron¿s 312. Even though it didn¿t work out for us that day, it was a great show for the fans.¿

Tucker¿s Jones will be testing a Waltrip-owned car also sponsored by Aaron¿s for the Oct. 26 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500. Jones also tested the car last October, hoping to make his return to Winston Cup in the machine. Qualifying was rained out, however, and with no owner points, Jones was left out of the field.

Busch driver David Green will be at Atlanta to test his car for the Aaron¿s 312 Busch race, which is sure to be a pivotal race in the Busch championship chase. Rookie Brian Vickers currently leads the points, with Scott Riggs and Ron Hornaday just behind him. Green is in fourth place, just 67 points out, but with just seven races to catch up.

All of these drivers will just be warming up for their big events during the Oct. 24-26 Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 weekend. Great seats are still available, with three-day ticket packages starting at just $69, from the ticket office at (770) 946-4211.
