HAMPTON, GA - Jeff Gordon held off a charging Tony Stewart late in the race to win Monday¿s Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Gordon, a four-time winner at the track, managed to hold off the faster car of Stewart until the yellow flag came out with three laps to go when Ryan Newman spun. "We knew it would be hard to hold off Tony, I'm surprised we did," Gordon said. "I'd been loose all day. As he got to me, I started moving my line around, and when he got up to me, he seemed to slow down. He kept making surges and was on another one when the yellow came out." Stewart led more laps than any other driver, 109, and was one of the fastest cars on track late in the race, but he never had the chance to get around Gordon. "We had a good car all day," Stewart said. "We just didn't win." Jimmie Johnson, Bill Elliott and spring Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500 winner Bobby Labonte rounded out the top 5. Tickets are already on sale for the return of the NASCAR Winston Cup series in the March 12 Golden Corral 500. The weekend will also feature the inaugural NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at Atlanta, a 200-mile event. Three-day ticket packages start at just $59 and can be purchased from the Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office at (770) 946-4211.
