Three Craftsman Truck Series drivers made laps at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Tuesday and Wednesday, testing both 2003 and 2004 Dodges for Bobby Hamilton Racing. Chad Chaffin, driver of the No. 18 Dickies Dodge, spent most of the day in the 2004 truck. ¿We¿re taking different parts and pieces and trying things out with this ¿04 truck,¿ Chaffin said. ¿I guess we¿re just playing test team for these guys a little bit.¿ Chaffin¿s fast lap in the 2004 Dodge was clocked at 32.17 seconds (172.174 mph). Hamilton had the fastest lap of the day, circling the 1.54-mile quad-oval in 31.5 seconds (176.112 mph). Hamilton was testing his 2003 Square D Dodge, preparing for the season finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway. With the new reconfiguration and banking at Homestead, Hamilton expects the track to be somewhat similar to Atlanta. Also testing Wednesday was Chase Montgomery, who pilots the No. 27 Trim Spa Busch Series entry. In his first laps in a Craftsman Truck Series machine, Montgomery clocked a lap at 170.061 mph (32.6 seconds). The relationship between Hamilton and Montgomery goes back several years, as Montgomery¿s first ARCA cars were purchased from the stables of Bobby Hamilton Racing. The Craftsman Truck Series will make its Atlanta debut on Saturday, March 13, 2004. Tickets are on sale now and can be purchased by calling the Atlanta Motor Speedway ticket office at (770) 946-4211.
