After spending two straight days testing the American Speed Association (ASA) car on Atlanta Motor Speedway¿s high banks, Atlanta native Mike Garvey is counting down the days until next fall¿s race.

The ASA drivers will compete in a 100-lap event following Georgia-Pacific Qualifying Night next Oct. 29.

¿Man, I love this place,¿ Garvey said. ¿The car is really stable here. This test went a lot smoother than we anticipated. The way the car ran this week, I know we¿re capable of putting on a great show for the fans.¿

Garvey tested at least 10 tire combinations for BF Goodrich on Wednesday, narrowing the scope for Thursday¿s stability and speed runs.

¿We came into this not knowing what to expect, having not raced here,¿ Garvey said. ¿It was a whole new animal. But after putting some laps on the car, with the tire and motor package we have, I can envision a lot of pack racing with 5 or 6 of us all together, fighting back and forth each lap.¿

Garvey, 41, has 17 victories in the ASA Series and has finished in the top 10 in points in five of his six ASA seasons. He raced at Atlanta Motor Speedway with the Busch Series in 1994, finishing 25th.
