Arnold Palmer Named Grand Marshal of March 14 Golden Corral 500
Wednesday, February 18, 2004
Golf great Arnold Palmer has been named the Grand Marshal for the March 14 Golden Corral 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Winner of 92 professional golfing championships, including four at the Masters, Palmer will give drivers the command to start engines on race morning. It¿s a far cry from what he¿ll be doing several weeks later in August, Ga., where Palmer will tee off for his 50th Masters tournament at Augusta National.
Not only will Palmer help start the Golden Corral 500, but he will also be in the Golden Corral 500. Not driving, of course, but emblazoned on the No. 88 Dale Jarrett UPS/Arnold Palmer: Tribute To A Legend car.
UPS Racing will pay tribute to the accomplishments of the great Arnold Palmer by running this special paint scheme for the Golden Corral 500.
Palmer was named the ¿Athlete of the Decade¿ for the 1960s, is a charter member of the World Golf Hall of Fame, a member of the American Golf Hall of Fame at Foxburg, Pa., and a member of the PGA Hall of Fame in Florida.
A renowned businessman and philanthropist, Arnold owns several golf courses around the country, is a consultant to The Golf Channel, is chairman of the USGA Members Program and served as honorary national chairman of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation for 20 years.
