Representatives of the Atlanta chapter of the Speedway Children¿s Charities will be on hand Tuesday night at a pre-Grand Opening Celebration at the new Wal-Mart Supercenter in Lovejoy to receive a check for the local foundation.

Wal-Mart will giving away a total of $31,000 to 29 local charities during Tuesday¿s private ceremony, which will also allow new associates and their families a sneak preview of the new store.

Wal-Mart will be donating the money to local charities as part of its community involvement program, which supports local communities and nonprofit organizations with financial contributions and volunteer-organized fundraisers.

Pat Thompson, administrator for the Atlanta chapter of the Speedway Children¿s Charities, and SCC¿s outgoing Head Chairman, Dr. David Jones, will accept the $1,000 donation on behalf of Speedway Children¿s Charities.

Speedway Children¿s Charities works year-round to raise money for local children¿s organizations through special charity auctions, raffles, receptions and donations from race fans. Last year, SCC distributed more than $178,000 to19 local children¿s charities.
