The Papa John's Invitational will take place immediately following Georgia-Pacific Qualifying Night where the field will be set for the Sunday running of the Bass Pro Shops MBNA 500. A record crowd will be in the stands for the inaugural Papa John's invitational.
This marks the third year Papa John's has been involved with the Legends racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway and becoming a title sponsor for the Papa John's Invitational extends their local marketing grassroots efforts.
"This is truly an all-star Legends event," said Atlanta Motor Speedway president and general manager Ed Clark. "We are going to have the best of the best here slugging it out for $15,000."
Legends cars debuted in the early 1990's and were an immediate hit with their affordability, ruggedness and low maintenance. Designed after stock cars from the 1930's and 1940's, Legends cars offer competitors an affordable entrance into short track racing.
Current NASCAR drivers Kurt and Kyle Busch, Dale Earnhardt Jr., and Reed Sorenson all have spent time behind the wheel of a Legends car, garnering them invaluable seat time.
Admission to the Papa John's Invitational is included in the purchase of a Georgia-Pacific NASCAR NEXTEL Cup qualifying ticket. The event will be held under the lights on Friday, October 28.
