With the first event of the 2006 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup season only four days away, fans will have the first opportunity to see their favorite drivers for the first time this season. There were over 20 driver and team changes made during the off-season, so fans will have to pay close attention to who is driving what car this year. Atlanta Motor Speedway, host of the fourth race of the 2006 season, the Golden Corral 500, has provided a tool for fans for the start of the season to help track all the changes.
Highlighting this year's driver changes are seven rookie drivers that will be competing for Raybestos Rookie of the Year honors. Among them are two-time NASCAR Busch Series champion Martin Truex Jr. and Peachtree City, Ga. native Reed Sorenson.
Seasoned veterans and the newest young guns of NASCAR's top series made changes for the new season. Notable drivers making a change for 2006 are '04 NEXTEL Cup Series champion Kurt Busch, moving from Roush Racing to the Penske Racing stables. Three-time Daytona winner Michael Waltrip will drive for Bill Davis Racing and '00 Cup champion Bobby Labonte moves to the famed Petty Enterprises for 2006 from Joe Gibbs Racing.
