Thursday Thunder is a 10-week summer Legends racing series at Atlanta Motor Speedway held every Thursday night through August 3. The ninth season of Thursday Thunder racing at AMS is currently underway, and both competitors and spectators are enjoying an exciting season of short-track racing.
Fireworks Spectacular at Atlanta Motor Speedway: Fans attending Thursday Thunder on June 29 will be treated to the largest fireworks extravaganza in Georgia. One vehicle will be granted access to the Champions parking lot to view the fireworks for $5. With a parking pass, one adult will be admitted to the grandstands to watch Thursday Thunder and the fireworks show. For $5 fans can purchase an adult ticket and watch the fireworks both on the track and off. Children six to 12 will be admitted for $1 while children under six are free. The fireworks are being provided by internationally renowned aerial illumination experts, Zambelli Fireworks Internationale.
Richard Childress' Grandkids race at AMS: Austin and Ty Dillon, grandchildren of NASCAR icon Richard Childress, raced in week three of Thursday Thunder competition at AMS. Backyard Burgers Semi-Pro division driver Austin and Zaxby's Young Gun's division driver Ty posted fourth-place finishes in their respective divisions.
Thursday Thunder Theme Night Reminder: Race fans can show their pride for the United States of America this Thursday for Red, White and Blue Extravaganza at AMS. Fans are encouraged to dress in Independence Day appropriate attire. A limited number of miniature American flags will be distributed in the grandstands so be sure to come early.
Atlanta Motor Speedway Thursday Thunder Awards:
Atlanta Motor Speedway presents three awards each week for the 2006 Thursday Thunder season. The "Hard Charger" award is given to the driver who improves the most positions in the feature race each week. The "Smooth Move of the Night" award is given to the driver who completes the smoothest move on the race track. The driver who has the best looking car each week is presented with the "Top Dog" award. Winners are determined by a vote of select AMS staff members. Week two winners are:
Hard Charger: Both Matt Dooley and Judson Kittle improved 11 positions in the Atlanta Dental Team Bandits division Thursday night. Dooley wheeled his No. 3 Bandolero to a fifth place finish during week four competition and Kittle raced his way to a sixth place finish during Thursday night's feature race.
Smooth Move of the Night: Ryan Gandee passed four cars on the last two laps of Thursday's Backyard Burgers Semi-Pro feature race, claiming a sixth-place finish.
Top Dog: This week's "Top Dog" is Paige Monette, driver of the No. 8 Optech Roadster in the John Deere Roadsters division. Monette has a newly designed paint scheme for the 2006 season consisting of a silver base coat and tribal flame graphics.
