Thursday Thunder is a 10-week Legends racing series at Atlanta Motor Speedway that concludes this Thursday, Aug. 3. The ninth season of Thursday Thunder racing at AMS has proven to be a successful summer, and both competitors and spectators will enjoy one final evening of exciting short-track racing.

Papa John's Fan Appreciation Night: Thursday Thunder's season finale will feature a fan appreciation night sponsored by Papa John's Pizza. The first 500 fans through the gates on Thursday will receive a Papa John's gift bag. Fans can also watch fellow spectators compete in the Papa John's "Throw for Dough" contest during the intermission.

Gov. Perdue to Race Captain Herb Emory in Intermission Race: Week 10 action will be highlighted with a match race between Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue and WSB-AM Radio personality Captain Herb Emory. After a recent driving school run at Atlanta Motor Speedway in a NEXTEL Cup style stock car, Gov. Perdue is ready to take on NASCAR enthusiast Emory during Thursday Thunder's final night of the summer.

In honor of the Governor's visit, AMS will recognize public safety personnel (police officers, firemen etc.) displaying proper identification by admitting them free of charge to Thursday Thunder.

Close Points Races Light Up Final Night: After double-points night during week nine, division points races are tighter than ever, with one night left to run for a championship.

In the John Deere Roadsters division, only eight points separate points leader Jim Gresham from Atlanta Motor Speedway's president and general manager, Ed Clark.

The Back Yard Burgers Semi-Pro division is a tight race with Billy Fulson trailing leader Taylor Hull by six markers.

In the Tanger Outlet Center Masters division, a one-point-difference holds Skip Nichols above Brian Weimer who sits second in points.

John Deere Outlaws drivers Jonathan Chandler and Trey Maughan have battled each other all summer, and going into week ten, Chandler leads Maughan by a mere three points.

Mike Conrad looks to hold off Jason Turner in the City of McDonough Chargers division this week. Conrad will start week 10's race three points ahead of Turner.

In the Atlanta Dental Team Bandits division, Kyle Benjamin will try to close his five-point-deficit behind leader Kyle Plott and win a 2006 championship.

Atlanta Motor Speedway Thursday Thunder Awards: Atlanta Motor Speedway presents three awards each week for the 2006 Thursday Thunder season. The "Hard Charger" award is given to the driver who improves the most positions in the feature race each week. The "Smooth Move of the Night" award is given to the driver who completes the smoothest move on the race track. The driver who has the best looking car each week is presented with the "Top Dog" award. Winners are determined by a vote of select AMS staff members. Week nine winners are listed below.

Hard Charger: Critter Saile of the Atlanta Dental Team Bandits division is the Hard Charger of the week. The young Florida driver qualified for the main event through the B-Main last Thursday and improved 11 positions in the feature to snare an eighth place finish. In his No. 12 car, week nine was Saile's first appearance at the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

Smooth Move of the Night: Max Bennett in his No. 1 ride receives the Smooth Move of the Night award. Competing in the Atlanta Dental Team Bandits division, Bennett was quick to maneuver through a wild wreck in the third turn during the feature race last Thursday night. His "smooth move" helped him to finish a season best second place in the main event.

Top Dog: This week's "Top Dog" is Beau Slocumb, driver of the No. 8 Legends car in the Pro division. With a camouflage paint scheme, Slocumb's ride stood out from the rest of the field.
