Atlanta Motor Speedway Adds Papa John's Pizza Shootout ASA Southern Modified Race after Georgia-Pacific Qualifying
Sunday, September 17, 2006
Race fans attending Georgia-Pacific Qualifying on Friday, October 27 will get more entertainment for their dollar when the ASA Southern Modified Tour rolls into the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Papa John's Pizza Shootout.
The Modified cars will fill the Thunder Ring, Atlanta Motor Speedway's front-stretch quarter-mile oval, creating an exciting 75-lap slug-fest.
The inaugural Papa John's Pizza Shootout ASA Southern Modified race will take the green flag immediately following NASCAR's fastest qualifying session, Georgia-Pacific Qualifying under the lights.
"Having the ASA Southern Modified Series race here is a first for AMS," track president and general manager Ed Clark said. "These 600 horsepower ground shaking machines will add a unique wow factor to an already thrilling night."
For many of the drivers, racing at AMS is a chance to drive on a large stage, while keeping their southern short-track roots.
"Modified racing was born and bred on the short tracks of the South. To have the chance to showcase the talents of these drivers and put these cars in tens-of-thousands of people Friday night is a once in a lifetime opportunity", said Southern Modified Race Tour founder, Randy Myers. "Fans will see a great race with sparks flying and tires rubbing."
Admission to the Papa John's Pizza ASA Southern Modified race is included in the purchase of a Georgia-Pacific NASCAR NEXTEL Cup qualifying ticket and will be held under the lights on Friday, October 27.
