Kobalt, an industry frontrunner in mechanics' tools available exclusively at Lowe's, will sponsor the 500-mile NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 18, 2007. The race, held during the March 16-18 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup race weekend, will be officially known as the Kobalt Tools 500. Starting at 2p.m., the Kobalt Tools 500 is the headline event for the race weekend and will feature NASCAR's brightest stars. "Kobalt is a perfect sponsor for our NEXTEL Cup event," said Ed Clark, Atlanta Motor Speedway president and general manager. "This is an exciting new partnership and we are happy to have a high caliber brand like Kobalt sign-on with us. It is the perfect extension of what is an already a tremendous relationship with Speedway Motorsports Inc. and Lowe's." "Bringing the Kobalt brand to life through our relationship with NASCAR, Team Lowe's Racing, and of course our partner Speedway Motorsports, Inc., is such an exciting opportunity for Lowe's," said Bob Gfeller, Lowe's senior vice president of marketing and advertising. "Lowe's will position the Kobalt Tools brand prominently beginning this March in Atlanta with a multi-month marketing program to drive awareness and trial of all Kobalt products sold at Lowe's. Beginning with the Kobalt Tools 500 followed by other events connected to racing through the Memorial Day weekend races at Lowe's Motor Speedway, we look forward to working with Speedway Motorsports to make the most of these activities for NASCAR racing fans." "Lowe's has been a long-time partner of SMI and we are excited they are using our track in Atlanta as a springboard for building brand awareness for Kobalt Tools," said Marcus Smith, Executive Vice-President of National Sales and Marketing for Speedway Motorsports, Inc. In conjunction with the race sponsorship, Jimmie Johnson and the Lowe's Racing Team will debut the No. 48 Kolbat Tools Chevrolet during the Atlanta race weekend.
