More than 1,000 hot rods and custom cars will turn the infield of Atlanta Motor Speedway into a time capsule , June 15 - 17, when the Goodguys 1st NAPA Southern Nationals car show makes a pit stop at the Hampton, Ga. track.

Featuring a car show, an automotive swap meet, a vendor exhibit midway, track cruise, auto-cross course and a host of other automotive-themed activities, the Goodguys 1st NAPA Southern Nationals is the ninth of 23 national annual hot rod and custom car events produced by Goodguys Rod and Custom Association.

"It was a no-brainer to hold a Goodguys National event at Atlanta Motor Speedway," said Goodguys vice president of event operations Harry Daviess. "Our events fit speedways perfectly. There's lots of room to park and cruise, the garages serve as perfect spaces for the vendor midway and the participants feel at home in these venues. Throw in the track cruise and NASCAR rides and you've got a winning formula which is fun for all participants and spectators."

The Southern Nationals will provide spectators and participants several opportunities to get on the track. On Saturday evening, June 16, all participants with a car entered in the show will have the opportunity to cruise their car around AMS. The Richard Petty Driving Experience will be offering ride-a-longs in a NASCAR NEXTEL Cup style stock car on Friday, June 15 and Saturday, June 16 as well.

Offering everything the automotive buff and gear-head could ever want, the show will feature a used parts swap meet and a special "cars for sale corral" where automotive treasure hunters can seek out hard to find parts and buy or sell the car of their dreams. Model car giant Revell-Monogram will sponsor a model car show, complete with a "Make and Take" program where kids can build a model at the event and take it home with them.

"Colorful, customized American cars have always made people happy," Goodguys chairman and founder Gary Meadors said. "You drive down the road in a big foreign luxury sedan and people think you're a snob. When you hit the road in a candy red '57 Chevy, or a flamed '32 Ford coupe with chrome glistening in the sun, people give you a hearty thumbs up and wave to you even though you're a complete stranger. These cars extract human emotions. We've been doing hot rod events for over twenty years and mainstream America has now found out how cool these cars are and how much fun you can have building, owning and driving them."

The event will also showcase specialty parking areas with specific themes. A "Deuces are Wild" region features only 1932 model cars and trucks in honor of the '32 model year's 75th anniversary. The "Fins are Fifty" are celebrated in the 50th birthday of 1957 model cars such as the iconic '57 Chevy. "Mighty Muscle" highlights Muscle Cars 1960 through 1972 and the "Young Guys" is for hot rodders 25 years old and younger. The special parking areas take place Saturday, June 16th from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Event hours are Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. General admission is $15, and kids 7-12 are just $5. Kids 6 and under are free. Sunday, June 17th is "Family Fun Day" with kids 12 and under admitted free.
