Speedway Children's Charities was founded in 1984 by Bruton Smith, Chairman of Speedway Motorsports, Inc. and Sonic Automotive. Smith wanted to give back to the community and created Speedway Children's Charities, which provides funds to charities that meet the direct needs of children. SCC best affects children's lives by supporting organizations that work tirelessly to see that children's needs are met and that no child is left behind regardless of illness, social environment or disability.

Thanks to the generosity of many supporters, the Atlanta Chapter was able to distribute nearly $350,000 to 28 local charities at its annual grant ceremony in December 2007.
