Atlanta Motor Speedway's newest form of racing re-fires on June 6 when the summer-long Friday Night Drag Racing Presented by ACDelco and JI Parts Express gets underway.

The 2007 inaugural season of the drag racing series was a tremendous success with more than 1,000 different competitors, ranging in age from 16 to 74, participating in the street drags or the car show portion of the event.

"Drag racing has been a great addition to our racing portfolio," said Atlanta Motor Speedway president and general manager Ed Clark. "ACDelco and JI Parts Express are wonderful sponsors and we are extremely pleased to partner with each of them to present a summer full of thrilling drag racing entertainment."

The competition will be heads up, street-style drag racing on AMS' eighth-mile pit road drag strip. The series is open to any automobile and any driver, provided they possess a valid driver's license. A simple points system will be in place for 2008 and division champions will be crowned at the end of the season. Three points will be awarded for a final round win with two points awarded to the runner-up. A single point will be awarded to every participant, ensuring a tight points battle throughout the season.

In addition to the pavement-pounding drag action, a Show N' Shine car show, held in the AMS infield garage area, will feature collector vehicles divided into five classes, with trophies awarded to the top-three finishers of each division. There will also be motorcycles on display and a weekly "President's Choice" award.

All racers 16 and 17 must have a fully executed minors release form on file at the speedway prior to competition (forms available at the speedway or at Competitors must wear an approved helmet and have operational seat belts in the vehicle and pass a pre-race safety inspection.

The 2008 Friday Night Drags Presented by ACDelco and JI parts Express will run on June 6, and every Friday night from June 20 to August 22. Gates open at 7 p.m. and practice drag runs begin at 6:40 p.m.  Show N' Shine car show judging begins at 8:30 p.m. with the championship drag runs starting at 9 p.m.

Both drag and Show N' Shine competitors entry fees are $20 while spectator admission is only $7. Competitors can participate in both the drag racing and car show for $30.
