Fireworks Celebration at Red, White & Blue Night presented by Papa John's Pizza
Atlanta Motor Speedway's summer racing series, Thursday Thunder, returns to AMS' quarter-mile frontstretch "Thunder Ring" on July 3 for round five of the 10-week racing series that runs each Thursday through August 7.
Week five will be highlighted by a fireworks display for Red, White & Blue Night presented by Papa John's Pizza, a Bomber race featuring Rock 100.5's The Regular Guys, and an autograph session featuring every competitor from each class, as well as weekly concourse activities, grandstand games and on-track racing action.
An adult ticket to Thursday Thunder is just $5 while kids ages six to 11 are just $1. Kids five and under are free. In addition, parking for the event will be $5 and includes one complimentary regular gate entry. Gates open at 6 p.m., heat races start at 6:15 p.m. and feature races start at approximately 7:50 p.m.
Fourth of July Celebration Scheduled for July 3 Thursday Thunder:
Atlanta Motor Speedway will celebrate Independence Day during Thursday Thunder with the biggest fireworks display on Atlanta's south side that will conclude the evening's race activities. Fireworks will be launched from AMS' infield and spectators can view the show from their Thursday Thunder seat or from AMS' purple parking lot with a $5 parking pass that includes one regular gate admission to Thursday Thunder.
Rock 100.5 FM's The Regular Guys to compete in Bomber Race:
The Red, White & Blue Night's intermission will feature The Regular Guys from Rock 100 competing in a five-lap Bomber car race. After emblazing their cars with their respective name by means of spray paint, The Regular Guys' Larry, Eric, Tim and Southside Steve will battle it out on the "Thunder Ring" to crown the fastest Regular Guy.
Atlanta Motor Speedway Thursday Thunder Awards:
Atlanta Motor Speedway will present two awards each week for the 2008 Thursday Thunder season. The "Smooth Move of the Night" award is given to the driver who completes the smoothest move on the race track. The driver who has the best looking car each week is presented with the "Top Dog" award. Winners are determined by a vote of select AMS staff members.
New for 2008, Atlanta Motor Speedway has implemented the "Promoters Choice" race. Each week eight drivers who have not won a feature race or heat race are selected to race in a trophy dash.
Week one winners:
Top Dog: Marietta native Kyle Plott garners this week's "Top Dog" distinction for his No. 4 Semi-Pro car. The 12-year old's red vehicle features checkered flag-inspired graphics sweeping from the front tires towards the car's rear.
Smooth Move: Mason Massey used this week's "Smooth Move" to collect his fourth-straight win of the season. After waiting patiently, the Bandits division racer from Winston passed on the final lap to cross the finish first and claim victory.
Promoters Choice Winners: Bandoleros: Clayton Weatherman. Legends: Zach Weaver.
Featuring a full slate of competitive racing, Thursday Thunder is an affordably-priced activity that offers something for spectators of all ages. Tickets are just $5 for adults and $1 for children 6-11 (children under 6 are free) for each evening of family fun and grass-roots racing.
