Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration presented by Charter Communications
Featuring an extensive fireworks display to celebrate Independence Day, Atlanta Motor Speedway's 10-week season of Friday Night Drags presented by ACDelco continues on July 4 with the third week of points competition and Fourth of July festivities.
Following the opening-round drag races, a Fourth of July fireworks celebration will precede semi-final round runs with the largest fireworks show on the south side of Atlanta. The patriotic fireworks presentation will be launched from the AMS infield and is presented by Charter Communications.
Spectators can watch the show from the grandstands and infield with admission or by purchasing a parking pass to view the fireworks from the purple lot. All Friday Night Drags patrons will need to purchase a $5 parking pass for the Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration presented by Charter Communications, but those attending the drag races will receive $5 off a regular admission ticket with their parking pass.
Now in the event's second full-length season, Friday Night Drags presented by ACDelco features heads up, street-style drag racing on AMS' eighth-mile pit road drag strip. The series is open to any automobile and any driver, provided they possess a valid driver's license. A simple points system will be in place for 2008 and division champions will be crowned at the end of the season. Three points will be awarded for a final round win with two points awarded to the runner-up. A single point will be awarded to every participant, ensuring a tight points battle throughout the season.
In addition to the pavement-pounding drag action, a Show N' Shine car show is held in the AMS infield garage area and features collector vehicles divided into five classes, with trophies awarded to the top-three finishers of each division. There will also be motorcycles on display and a weekly "President's Choice" award.
All racers 16 and 17 must have a fully executed minors release form on file at the speedway prior to competition (forms available at the speedway or at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com). Competitors must wear an approved helmet and have operational seat belts in the vehicle and pass a pre-race safety inspection.
The 2008 Friday Night Drags season presented by ACDelco will run every Friday night through August 22. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and practice drag runs begin at 6:20 p.m. Show N' Shine car show judging begins at 8:20 p.m. with the championship drag runs starting at 9 p.m.
Both drag and Show N' Shine competitor entry fees are $20 and competitors can compete in both events for just $30. Spectator admission is only $7 and parking for the Fourth of July Fireworks Celebration presented by Charter Communications is $5 and includes $5 off a regular admission.
