Chevys and Motorcycles Featured at Friday Night Drags

Atlanta Motor Speedway's 10-week season of Friday Night Drags presented by ACDelco continues on August 15 with the ninth week of points racing, featuring the "Chevy Challenge" and motorcycles added to the schedule.

The ninth week of Friday Night Drags presented by ACDelco will feature a special showcase solely for Chevrolets during the "Chevy Challenge," in addition to the weekly elimination, drag racing action in each of Friday Night Drags' nine classes. Any Chevrolet owner is encouraged to attend Friday Night Drags presented by ACDelco and participate in the "Chevrolet Challenge."

In addition to week nine's "Chevy Challenge," a motorcycle class has been added to the schedule due to tremendous fan support for the motorcycles. Motorcycles are already schedule for week 10's "Points Championship" event.

Now in the event's third season, Friday Night Drags presented by ACDelco features heads up, street-style drag racing on AMS' eighth-mile pit road drag strip. The series is open to any automobile and any driver, provided they possess a valid driver's license. A simple points system will be in place for 2008 and division champions will be crowned at the end of the season. Three points will be awarded for a final round win with two points awarded to the runner-up. A single point will be awarded to every participant, ensuring a tight points battle throughout the season.

In addition to the pavement-pounding drag action, a Show N' Shine car show is held in the AMS infield garage area and features collector vehicles divided into six classes, with trophies awarded to the top-three finishers of each division. There will also be a weekly "President's Choice" award.

All racers 16 and 17 must have a fully executed minors release form on file at the speedway prior to competition (forms available at the speedway or at Competitors must wear an approved helmet and have operational seat belts in the vehicle and pass a pre-race safety inspection.

The 2008 Friday Night Drags season presented by ACDelco will run every Friday night through August 22. Gates open at 6:00 p.m. and practice drag runs begin at 6:20 p.m. Show N' Shine car show judging begins at 8:20 p.m. with the championship drag runs starting at 9 p.m.

Both drag and Show N' Shine competitors entry fees are $20 while spectator admission is only $7. Competitors can participate in both the drag racing and car show for $30.
