Drive Benefits Local American Red Cross and National Marrow Donor Program
After successfully collecting 3,410 pints of blood in the national event's first year, the third annual NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive return's to Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 11. Teaming with the American Red Cross and the Nascar Foundation, Atlanta Motor Speedway is aiming for 300 donor appointments during the one-day event.
In order to help meet demand of more than 38,000 blood donations needed daily and approximately 6,000 people who are seeking a marrow match each day, the NASCAR Foundation is utilizing dedicated race fans to give at more than 30 racing facilities nationwide. Over two years, the NASCAR Foundation Blood and Marrow Drive has received enough donations to potentially save 17,000 lives since 2006.
A free pace car ride around Atlanta Motor Speedway's full 1.54-mile quad-oval track will be offered to those willing to donate at Atlanta Motor Speedway on September 11 between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. In addition, donors will be entered for a grand prize drawing that will include two tickets, plus pre-race pit passes, to the entire Pep Boys Auto 500 NASCAR weekend. Additionally, donors will have an opportunity to receive NASCAR goodies, with one lucky donor receiving a signed Jimmie Johnson diecast.
