ACDelco Street Drag Nationals Partners with Cole Bros. Circus

Moving from the big top to the pit stop, elephant racing has been added to the ACDelco Street Drag Nationals schedule for Friday, Sept. 19. The Pachyderm Peanut Pursuit will be held shortly after opening ceremonies for the two-day ACDelco Street Drag Nationals at Atlanta Motor Speedway this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20.

Highlighting Atlanta Motor Speedway's ability to serve as a multi-use facility, the track will host both the ACDelco Street Drag Nationals and the Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars concurrently this weekend. Organizers of the events came together to add a special event - a drag race between circus elephants - to the ACDelco Street Drag Nationals schedule.

Following the Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars' Friday performances at 4:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., the elephants will be transported into the Atlanta Motor Speedway infield where the pachyderms will share the same drag racing space as competitors from across the country.

The Cole Bros. Circus of the Stars, which is set up on the Legends Campground at Atlanta Motor Speedway, will feature performances from Thursday, Sept. 18 through Sunday, Sept. 20.

The ACDelco Street Drag Nationals, held this Friday and Saturday, Sept. 19 and 20, will combine eleven divisions of street drag racing with an expansive Show-N-Shine competition. Automotive enthusiasts can look forward to classic, custom, showroom and hot rod vehicles along with side-by-side street drags. All cars, trucks, motorcycles and ATVs are eligible to compete in the drags or show off their cars in the car show.

Gates open for the ACDelco Street Drag Nationals at 6 p.m. on Friday and at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Friday's schedule includes a full round of single-elimination drag racing, a Show-N-Shine car show, a speedway cruise and a huge fireworks display. Saturday will feature the burnout contest and a full slate of drag racing, culminating with the 2008 Championship Ladder.

Tickets are just $15 for a weekend pass and $10 for a single-day entry, while children ages five and under are admitted for free. Parking is free in Atlanta Motor Speedway's exterior lots. Infield parking is $20. Entrants can compete in any one event for $20 (drag racing, Show-N-Shine or burnout) or enter two for $30. Camping is also available, with dry camping for $25 and full hook-up sites for $35. For more information, visit www.atlantamotorspeedway.com or call (770) 946-4211.
