Atlanta Motor Speedway's Thursday Thunder returns for the eighth week of short-track racing on the "Thunder Ring" with a "Green-Flag Party" for the 2009 Bandolero Nationals.
Week eight of Thursday Thunder is Disco Night and race fans are encouraged to dress the part. In addition to the fan and family-friendly festivities, Disco Night will feature eight classes of Legends, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing. Adding to the excitement, race officials are expecting an influx of Bandolero competitors arriving for the weekend's 2009 Bandolero Nationals at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
Disco Night at Thursday Thunder
Atlanta Motor Speedway's eighth week of Thursday Thunder is Disco Night, giving race fans the opportunity to dress for a party. Race fans are encouraged to dress for a night at the disco and bring their dancing shoes to Atlanta Motor Speedway. All fans who dress for the disco will receive free admission for Thursday Thunder's eighth week of short-track racing.
Points Races Tightening Approaching Championship Night
As the Thursday Thunder season approaches Championship Night on Aug. 6, points races among many divisions are tightening. Five-of-eight Thursday Thunder divisions currently feature points races of 20 points or less, while a sixth points race stands at 21 points.
Noteworthy points races of less than 20 points among Thursday Thunder classes include: the M&S Auto Bandits (Kyle Weatherman leads Dalton Hill by 10 points); Masters (Jeff Haynie leads Skip Nichols by 14 points), J.J. Morley Outlaws (Luke Behnke leads Garrett Smithley by nine points); Roadsters (Chris Cable leads Adam Gay by 17 points); and Semi-Pro (Jonathan Chandler is tied with Cody Haskins with 670 points, but leads by virtue of wins). In addition to the points races of 20-points or less, Evan Bell leads Joey Padgett by 21 points in the Young Guns division.
2009 Bandolero Nationals and Green-Flag Party
Atlanta Motor Speedway will play host to the 2009 Bandolero Nationals this weekend and the track expects a resulting increase in Bandolero racers for Thursday Thunder. With more than 60 Bandolero racers expected to descend on the "Thunder Ring" for the Nationals, a number of Bandolero racers are expected to participate in Thursday Thunder to prepare for the national competition. In addition, week eight of Thursday Thunder will feature a "Green-Flag Party" to celebrate the 2009 Bandolero Nationals and welcome the many out-of-town competitors to Atlanta Motor Speedway. Drivers are currently entered from 11 states for the event.
The 2009 Bandolero Nationals will be held on July 24 and 25 at Atlanta Motor Speedway and will feature the nation's best short-track Bandolero racers competing on a national scale. The Atlanta Motor Speedway grandstands will be closed for the event, but race fans can purchase infield passes for $25.
Featuring a full slate of short-track racing, Thursday Thunder is an affordably-priced activity that offers something for spectators of all ages. Tickets are just $5 for adults and $1 for children 6-11 (ages 5 and under are free) for each evening of family fun and grass-roots racing.
