Atlanta Motor Speedway's Friday Night Drags will roar back to action on Friday, Aug. 14 after the first of two scheduled off weeks during the 2009 season.

Straight-line speed will return to Atlanta Motor Speedway for "Double Points Night" during week 10 of the 2009 Friday Night Drags season. In addition to 14 classes of drag racing, week 10 will feature a special Show-N-Shine award for the best truck entered in the Show-N-Shine car show.

Tight Points Races as FND Reaches Stretch Run

With just four weeks of Friday Night Drags competition remaining, a number of classes are separated by small point margins. But in two classes, the difference remains a razor-thin two points.

Fayetteville's David Sisk currently leads the Pro class with 13-total points, while Eddie Chapman of McDonough and Tony Morse trail by two points with 11 each. Meanwhile, Howard Wolf of Marietta currently holds the advantage among the Domestic Advance class with 18 points. But, Alvaton's Heath Maddock remains within striking distance with 16 points.

Second Double Points Night of 2009

With tight points races brewing in nearly every Night Drags class, "Double Points Night" will give many competitors an opportunity to surge back into contention with a strong Aug. 14 performance.

On "Double Points Night," competitors will be awarded with twice the amount of points distributed at a typical Friday Night Drags. Winners in their respective classes will be awarded six points, second place will collect four points and all other entrants will garner two points.

Special Show-N-Shine Award for Trucks

Week 10 of Friday Night Drags will feature a Show-N-Shine "Truck Rally" and will award a special trophy to the best-looking truck in the Show-N-Shine garage area. With two classes racing and many featured in the Show-N-Shine garage, the special "Truck" Show-N-Shine award will reward the nicest vehicle among the favorite rides of choice at Friday Night Drags.

The weekly Show-N-Shine car and motorcycle show awards trophies in seven-total classes. Entry is just $20 and includes parade laps on Atlanta Motor Speedway's full 1.54-mile quad oval.

The 2009 Friday Night Drags season features heads up, street-style racing on AMS' eighth-mile pit road drag strip, running Friday nights through Sept. 11. Grandstand gates open at 6:30 p.m. and practice drag runs begin at 6:20 p.m. Show N' Shine car show judging begins at 8:20 p.m. with the elimination drag runs starting at approximately 9:00 p.m.

The series is open to any automobile and any driver, provided they possess a valid driver's license. All racers ages 16 and 17 must have a fully-executed minor's release form on file at the speedway prior to competition (forms available at the Speedway or at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com). Competitors must wear an approved helmet and have operational seat belts in the vehicle and pass a pre-race safety inspection.

Entry to drag race or for the Show N' Shine is $20 or competitors can enter both for $30. Spectator admission is only $7 and exterior parking is free, while infield parking is $20.
