One week after her car broke during practice, one Friday Night Drags competitor returned to Victory Lane just a week later during week 12 of Atlanta Motor Speedway's summer drag racing series.
Shannon Shelton guided her 2000 Chevrolet Camaro to victory in the Domestic class just one week after her car broke during practice runs at Atlanta Motor Speedway's Friday Night Drags. Last week, Shelton's Camaro snapped the wheel stubs after hooking up at the starting line, sending the left-rear tire rolling down the drag strip while the Camaro suddenly stopped just feet past the starting block.
"We busted our butt to get the car fixed quickly," said Shelton. "We actually got it fixed and were ready back out last week as our class was rolling to the start, but they wouldn't let us [queue back in line]. We would have won that night too If we could have got back out there, but we were happy to get back out there and win this week. I want to thank everyone who helped us out and the fans."
Points will be awarded each night during the 13-week points season in every class except the Domestic, Truck and Sport Compact divisions. Each division winner will take home three points, second-place two points and the rest of the participants will be awarded one point. The competitor with the most points at the end of the season wins the championship title on September 11. In the event of a tie, the competitor with the most wins will be awarded the title.
