Grantville's Tony Morse has been a mainstay among drag racing competitors at Atlanta Motor Speedway's Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine. He has competed in the super pro division, won a pro division championship and been a final round winner this season in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Division. Now, another member of the family is getting behind the wheel and finding success in the process.
Tony Morse's son, Joshua Morse picked up his first career Friday Night Drags final round victory last week. The younger Morse piloted the family's black 1981 Chevrolet Malibu to the win in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman division. Tony Morse started the season driving the car before handing driving duties over to his son in recent weeks. Morse is still present around the pit lane drag strip, interacting with drag racers and crew members while moving into his new role of crew chief and coach.
"It feels great to get the first win, we've been close a few times, so it feels good to get the first one," Joshua Morse said.
Tony Morse notes that his son's ability to take care of the race car and avoid damage during the course of drag racing is an asset.
"He does a good job of pulling the reins back and taking care of the car," Morse said. "It's like I'll tell him, 'if we take care of the car, we can always come back and race next week.' "
