NASCAR Nationwide Series drivers Justin Allgaier and Jason Leffer visited Atlanta on Wednesday, July 28 to go-kart race with local children and promote free children's admission to Atlanta Motor Speedway's Great Clips 300 NASCAR Nationwide Series race on Saturday, Sept. 4.
Allgaier and Leffler, drivers of the No. 12 Verizon Wireless and the No. 38 Great Clips Nationwide Series cars respectively, bested three groups of children at Andretti Karting & Games in Roswell, before again proving fastest against a party of local media.
"It's funny because you'll get next to some of them and you see their heads go down and their hands grip up and they were definitely trying to race for all they were worth. That's cool and we love seeing that," said Allgaier after racing the first two-of-three groups of children. "Unfortunately, I didn't mean to bump any of them – Jason I might have bumped a couple of times on purpose – but the kids I didn't mean to bump on purpose. We did get together with a couple of them though and I saw a few hands go up, so they're at least getting the right direction because when you get bumped that's usually the first thing that goes up. They were out their having a blast and we were too."
"Atlanta is an exciting place to race, especially with the groves being so wide – you can be all the way against the white line or all the way at the fence. I enjoy going there and I look forward to the race coming up Labor Day weekend, especially since it's the Great Clips 300," said Leffler with a laugh as plugged his sponsor's title race in Atlanta. "When the sun comes out, [Atlanta Motor Speedway] gets really slick and when it goes down it does gain some grip, but I call it a 'crusty-old racetrack' and I don't mean that in any negative way whatsoever – I love it. To me, it's a real racetrack, a drivers' track and I love going there."
When Leffler and Allgaier return to Atlanta Motor Speedway for the Great Clips 300 on Saturday, Sept. 4, children ages 12 and younger will be admitted free of charge when accompanied by a paid adult.
The biggest Labor Day party in the USA is at Atlanta Motor Speedway on Labor Day weekend, as the NASCAR Sprint Cup stars head to the high banks for night racing on Sept. 4 and 5. For more information or to purchase tickets, call (770) 946-4211, (877) 9-AMS-TIX, or visit www.atlantamotorspeedway.com.
