The track isn't the only place sparks will fly on Friday night when Atlanta Motor Speedway's eighth week of Friday Night Drags will feature a massive fireworks display to commemorate Independence Day.

Week eight of Friday Night Drags will feature the best and largest fireworks display on Atlanta's south side, plus 15 classes of straight-line speed on the track's eighth-mile drag strip for twice the typical points. Friday Night Drags' eighth week will also include a Harley-Davidson motorcycle special class in the Show-N-Shine car show, with six additional classes of show cars, plus President's Choice and Student Choice awards.

Fireworks to Commemorate Fourth of July Weekend

The eighth week of Friday Night Drags in 2010 will include the largest and best fireworks show on Atlanta's south side, taking place prior to 15 classes of drag racing action on Atlanta Motor Speedway's eighth-mile drag strip.

The fireworks display will take place following the Show-N-Shine awards and prior to the racing action. The massive fireworks show will set the stage for drag racing in 15 divisions.

Double Points Night at Friday Night Drags

The points standings could be due to be shaken up with week eight being the first of two Double Points Nights at Friday Night Drags, where competitors will earn twice the typical points.

Friday Night Drags racers competing during week eight will receive two points for completing a run and finishing outside of the top three, four points for a third-place finish, six points for a second-place showing and eight points for winning their division. With the current first-place competitors in each class holding an average lead of four points, an eight-point win for a lower competitor could result in a new points leader.

In fact, seven classes have a difference of five points or fewer between the top three competitors in their respective classes. Those classes are Super Pro, Pro, Sportsman, Domestic, Pro Four, Tuner and Super Bike. Perhaps the most competitive class is Domestic, where Tommy Buffington is the current leader. There is little margin for error, however, with the top eight in the points standings being separated by a mere five points, making this week's double points night all the more important for competitors in this class and the other 14 at Friday Night Drags.

Show-N-Shine Special Class: Harley-Davidson Cruise-In Night

Week eight of the Friday Night Drags season will be Harley-Davidson Cruise-In Night in the Show-N-Shine garage. Harley-Davidson's will serve as the week's special Show-N-Shine class, with trophies awarded to the top Harley's on display. In addition, each Show-N-Shine entrant can participate in a track cruise on Atlanta Motor Speedway's 1.54-mile quad oval.

In addition to the Harley-Davidson special class, trophies will also be awarded in the six weekly Show-N-Shine classes and awards will also be presented for the President's Choice and Student Choice categories.

Upcoming special Show-N-Shine classes include: Ford Owners Rally on July 9; a Mopar Owners Rally on July 16; and a Foreign Car Owner's Rally on July 23.

The 2010 Friday Night Drags season will run on Friday nights through Sept. 10. Practice drag runs begin at 6:15 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 6:30 p.m. Show N' Shine car show judging begins at 6:30 p.m. with the drag eliminations starting at 9:19 p.m.

All racers ages 16 and 17 must have a fully-executed minor's release form on file at the speedway prior to competition (forms available at the Speedway or at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com).
