Celebrity drag racing will hit Atlanta Motor Speedway's Friday Night Drags for the first of three FastLife Friday events on Friday, June 11, bringing star-studded action to the Speedway's pit lane drag strip.

In addition to the celebrity racing and accompanying music and entertainment for FastLife Fridays, week five of Friday Night Drags will feature 15 classes of straight-line speed on Atlanta Motor Speedway's eighth-mile drag strip and the Show-N-Shine car show with six classes of show cars and a special 60's Muscle Cars class, plus President's Choice and Student Choice awards.

FastLife Fridays

Through a partnership with Mauldin Brand Agency, Atlanta Motor Speedway will host three FastLife Fridays events during the 2010 season featuring celebrity racing, popular music, show cars and entertainment.

FastLife Fridays will add a lifestyle and multi-cultural element to Friday Night Drags and will highlight fashion, music and technology, plus full-throttle drag racing. In addition to celebrity drag racing, the events are scheduled to include celebrity show cars and performances. Celebrities for this week's FastLife Fridays will be announced when confirmed.

Points Position Already a Concern After First Points Race

Although just one week into the 2010 Friday Night Drags points racing season, points standings are already a concern for many top competitors. These racers will likely need strong finishes in the series' second week of points racing to buoy their position in the standings.

After sub-par performances during the first night of points racing, three 2009 champions – Tony Morse (Grantville) in Pro, Bill Patrick (Stockbridge) in Truck Advanced and Chris Stripling (Stockbridge) in Street Outlaw – will be eager for strong finishes this week to earn needed points towards a 2010 title.

Patrick's 1948 Willy's broke at the line prior to his first elimination run during week four, leaving the 2009 champion with no points for his effort. He now sits four points behind first-place position holder Chuck Poole (Stockbridge) and will look for a strong finish in week five to close on the points leader.

In the Pro and Street Outlaw divisions, 2009 champions Morse and Stripling each placed outside of the top-three finishers during week four, earning just one point each for appearing. Alan Kidd (Stockbridge), who finished third in the 2008 Pro standings, currently sits in first with four points after claiming the win last week. John Bonner (Molena), who competed as a Pro in 2009 and finished sixth in the points standings, holds first among Street Outlaw competitors after his win.

With the Pro, Truck Advanced and Street Outlaw divisions each decided by less than six points in the 2009 season, these 2009 champions will look for a win in Friday Night Drags fifth week to steady their points position in pursuit of a 2010 championship.

Show-N-Shine Special Class: 60's Muscle Cars

The Show-N-Shine car show special class for Friday Night Drags fifth week will feature 60's Muscle Cars. Show car enthusiasts are encouraged to bring their 1960's muscle cars for this special event and trophies will be awarded in the special class, in addition to the six standard Show-N-Shine classes. Each Show-N-Shine entrant can participate in a track cruise prior to drag racing eliminations.

Upcoming special Show-N-Shine classes include: Day Tuner Revolution on June 18; Hot Rod Heaven on June 25; and Harley-Davidson Motorcycles on July 2.

The 2010 Friday Night Drags season will run on Friday nights through Sept. 10. Practice drag runs begin at 6:15 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 6:30 p.m. Show N' Shine car show judging begins at 6:30 p.m. with the drag eliminations starting at 9:19 p.m.

All racers ages 16 and 17 must have a fully-executed minor's release form on file at the speedway prior to competition (forms available at the Speedway or at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com). Competitors must wear a DOT-approved helmet and have operational seat belts in their vehicle and pass a pre-race safety inspection.

Entry to drag race or for the Show N' Shine is $20 or competitors can enter both for $30. Spectator admission is only $7 and exterior parking is free, while infield parking is $20.
