Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags and Show-N-Shine car show return to action this Friday, May 14, two weeks after the Speedway played host to the largest season-opening event in the history of Friday Night Drags.

Friday’s event is the second of three non-points events to start the 2010 season. The non-points event will allow competitors to better tune and class vehicles prior to the season’s first points race on June 4. The series’ second date follows an opening night that featured more than 270 drag racers and 115 show cars performing before more than 4,000 fans, the largest opening-night crowd in Friday Night Drags history.

While many competitors are eager to build momentum entering the 2010 points season, two 2009 champions – Tony Morse in Pro and Stephen Fulton in Trucks – appear to have carried their 2009 momentum into 2010 after winning during week one.

Week Two of Friday Night Drags is Ride Along Night and fans can join a friend on the track in the passenger seat for just $20. Ride alongs are only available in lower divisions in passenger seats with proper restraints and riders must have a DOT-approved helmet.

In addition to riding with friends, fans can also ride in an alcohol-fueled, two-seat dragster with Big Kid’s Motorsports. Each ride costs $65 and fans will jettison down Atlanta’s pit lane drag strip at more than 120 mph in 5.5 seconds. For more information on Big Kid’s Motorsports, contact David Sisk at (678) 296-9116.

As a special bonus for Atlanta’s local racing enthusiasts, fans are encouraged to retain their ticket stub from this Friday or Friday, May 21’s Friday Night Drags for a free admission to the season-opening date of Thursday Thunder on June 3.

The 2010 Friday Night Drags season will play host to one final non-points event on Friday, May 21 before the points racing season commences on Friday, June 4. The season-opening event will follow a scheduled off date on Friday, May 28.

Drag racing entry is open to all competitors with a current and valid issued driver’s license and a helmet. Entry is open to any car, truck, motorcycle, ATV or motorized vehicle.  Entry to drag race or enter the Show-N-Shine car show is just $20 for one or $30 to enter both. The Infield will open for competitors at 6:00 p.m. and drag practice will run from 6:15 p.m. through 8:15 p.m., prior to the 8:25 p.m. driver’s meeting. Drag racing elimination will begin at 9:19 p.m.

Prior to the start of the 2010 Friday Night Drags points opener on June 4, additional non-points events are schedule for May 14 and 21.
