Beginning on Friday, April 30 and running on 17 Friday nights throughout the summer, Friday Night Drags will feature 15 divisions of street-style drag racing on Atlanta Motor Speedway's eighth-mile pit lane drag strip.
With an average of 225 drag competitors, 90 Show-N-Shine cars and nearly 5,000 fans each night, the 2009 Friday Night Drags season featured a number of points races stretching to the season's final week.
Spectator entry to Atlanta Motor Speedway's fourth-full season of Friday Night Drags is just $7 and children ages five and younger will be admitted free of charge.
The season-opening April 30th event will mark the first of three non-points events, allowing competitors to better prepare and class their vehicles for the first points race of 2010 on June 4. Following the April 30 exhibition, competitors will also be able to compete on May 14 and 21. While points will not be awarded during these events, trophies will be awarded to the main event winner in each division.
With three non-points dates and 14-schedule points races, the 2010 Friday Night Drags campaign marks the largest in the event's history with 17 events. In addition, the series has added a new class, the Radical Division, for ATVs, go-karts, Legends cars and any other vehicle not suited for another set division.
Many Friday Night Drags dates will feature special events, including ride-along nights, celebrity races and kids' Power Wheel races. Each night's Show-N-Shine car show will also include a special class, featuring '60s muscle cars, modern tuners, and Harley Davidsons, among others.
Drag racing entry is open to all competitors with a current and valid issued driver's license and a helmet. Entry is open to any car, truck, motorcycle, ATV or motorized vehicle. Entry to drag race or enter the Show-N-Shine car show is just $20 for one or $30 to enter both. The Infield will open for competitors at 6:00 p.m. and drag practice will run from 6:15 p.m. through 8:15 p.m., prior to the 8:25 p.m. driver's meeting. Drag racing elimination will begin at 9:19 p.m.
Spectator parking is available in the Infield for $20, allowing fans to bring coolers and chairs into the Infield, while outside parking is free. Motorcycles can also park free on the Infield. Grandstand gates open at 6:30 p.m.
