Two weeks into points racing at Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags and the cream has begun to rise to the top of the drag racing divisions. With week seven bringing the third week of points being up for grabs, each division will feature drivers looking to put space between themselves and their competition or racers working towards closing the gap they find themselves a part of in the season standings.
As mentioned, some divisions feature points races that those trailing will soon need to work on gaining ground. The Truck division has seen Buddy Patrick take the 1948 Willis Panel Wagon to victory two straight weeks, giving him some breathing room between himself and the rest of the division. Other back-to-back winners in points competition include Mark White (Super Pro), David Harbin (Pro), Daryl Stiles (Street Outlaw), Vic Vickers (Sportsman), Terry Bates (Domestic Advanced), Darrell Hallford (Papa John’s Pizza Domestic), Toney Freeman (Super Bike) and Jacob Turner (Cruiser/Dirt Bike).
Despite some divisions featuring consecutive winners, others look to provide intense racing throughout the summer. Last week, Andrew Pride rebounded from a less than desirable result during the points opener to defeat Chuck Poole in the final round of Truck Advanced competition. Pride’s result shows that there is still plenty of time for drag racers to get on the stick and close in on the top of the points standings.
Kid’s Power Wheel Races Return This Week
Always a crowd favorite each summer at Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine, this week will feature the return of the Power Wheel races for kids. Kids will race each other with their vehicles on the ball field, next to pit lane. Even the parents get involved, with some families working on their rides to improve the performance. All participants must wear a helmet.
With family-friendly activities that everyone can be a part of, Friday Night Drags and MCR Safety Show-N-Shine is a full evening of family fun and at a great bargain.
