Minneapolis-based Great Clips, Inc. has a long, storied history in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS). Celebrating their 10th year as a primary sponsor this season, the world’s largest salon brand with more than 3,000 salons, is proud to be the longest-running sponsor in the series. Additionally, for the last two years, the company has grown their visibility in the sport by partnering with Atlanta Motor Speedway to serve as the title sponsor of the NNS event here at Atlanta Motor Speedway – named the Great Clips 300.

Great Clips came onto the scene in 2001 when they entered the racing season adorning the hood of Christian Elder’s machine under the Akins Motorsports banner. In 2003, a young and virtually unknown talent, Kasey Kahne, was tapped to pilot the No. 38 machine. From 2003-2005, Kahne and his sponsor reached momentous milestones, including capturing the young driver’s first Nationwide Series victory in 2003 at Homestead-Miami Speedway. It was also Great Clips’ first win as a primary sponsor. In 2005, Kahne captured his second career win at Texas Motor Speedway before leaving the Nationwide Series behind to allow more time for his NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) efforts.

Over the years, Kahne has achieved tremendous success in his NSCS career.  However, in 2010, almost as if the stars had aligned perfectly, Kahne had the opportunity to get back behind the wheel of the familiar Great Clips machine for select Nationwide Series races with Turner Motorsports, sharing the ride with Jason Leffler and his infamous faux-hawk hairstyle. Leffler has represented the brand driving the No. 38 since 2006.

“It’s awesome to be able to partner up with Great Clips again after all this time. I got my start with them as my sponsor back in 2003, and that’s something I have never forgotten,” said Kahne, who will pilot the No. 38 Great Clips Chevrolet for Turner Motorsports in the upcoming Great Clips 300. “We are not running for a championship, so my ultimate goal is take this Great Clips team back to victory lane. There would be no better place to do that than here at Atlanta Motor Speedway in the Great Clips 300!”

The partnership is a win-win for Great Clips according to Great Clips CEO Rhoda Olsen.

“Since our first encounter with Kasey, we believed he would somehow always be a part of Great Clips. Not only is he an incredible driver, but he’s a great representative of our brand values. We are so very proud to be associated with Kasey and have him back in the No. 38 the last two years.”

With the Great Clips 300 this September quickly approaching, the company hopes to repeat the record attendance of 70,000 from last year’s event through its “Gimme Gotta Getta” ticket contest in the Atlanta market and the Fast Cars & Guitars Facebook promotion by Great Clips with Lynyrd Skynyrd and the Atlanta Motor Speedway.

“The visibility Great Clips received as a race title sponsor, both during the months leading up to it and during the race, was an exciting opportunity for us,” said Terri Miller, vice president of marketing and communications. “We are excited to partner with Atlanta Motor Speedway again this year with a goal to surpass the attendance of last year’s event. We will have many Great Clips VIPs in the stands and hope to celebrate with our driver, Kasey Kahne, in victory lane at the end of the night!”
