Roy Hill, a legend in professional drag racing, will be the fastest guest at Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday for the season opener of O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine.
During his competitive drag racing career, Hill won 28 International Hot Rod Association National Events and was the owner of the 1995 IHRA Pro Stock Championship car piloted to the title by Mike Bell.
Hill is bringing his adrenaline-pumping drag racing experience in the form of a three-seat rail-style dragster from the Roy Hill Drag Racing School and will offer spectators a chance to win the ride of a lifetime at Atlanta Motor Speedway's eighth-mile drag racing facility. A limited number of fans will have the opportunity to purchase rides beginning at 6:30 p.m.
The North Carolina driver has ties to one of NASCAR's most-famous drivers. During the 1970s, Hill acquired many of his racing skills and techniques from NASCAR's winningest driver, Richard Petty. In addition, Petty Enterprises and NASCAR Hall of Famer Maurice Petty serviced his car's engines. He credits much of his racing success to Petty Enterprises.
Hill has also helped introduce drag racing to thousands of people with his acclaimed drag racing school. He has also been a mentor to hundreds of professional drag racers including Warren Johnson and Doug Herbert.
