O'Reilly Auto Parts will serve as the title sponsor of Atlanta Motor Speedway's popular summer drag racing series, Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine, which begins its eighth season on May 9.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags features street-style drag racing on Atlanta Motor Speedway's pit-lane drag strip. The grassroots racing series heralds racing among 18 different drag racing divisions featuring a massive array of cars, trucks and motorcycles. Vehicles competing include supercharged cars all the way down to completely stock cars seen driving on the street.
The season opens with a pair of non-points nights on May 9 and May 16 withpoints events set for each Friday from May 30 through Aug. 15. The non-points Fall Stampede events will be held Sept. 12 and Sept. 19.
Special event nights will also be part of the season in 2014. Kids power wheel races are scheduled for June 6 and July 11. Another popular activity for younger race fans, the candy scramble, will be held June 20.
And with drag racing already scheduled for the Fourth of July, Atlanta Motor Speedway will host the Papa John's Pizza Fireworks Extravaganza, one of the largest fireworks displays on Atlanta's southside prior to the start of drag racing eliminations on July 4th..
Participation in O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags or the Show-N-Shine portion is only $20 per vehicle, making it easy for racers to participate no matter what kind of vehicle they own. Registration gates open each week for drag racing and the Show-N-Shine at 6 p.m. at the Speedway's main infield tunnel and all racing competitors must sign a safety waiver and have a DOT-approved helmet.
O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags also affords local car enthusiasts the opportunity to show off their prized vehicle in the weekly Show-N-Shine competition. Awards are given to each week's top vehicles. All Show-N-Shine entrants are invited to participate in each week's scheduled Speedway Cruise around Atlanta Motor Speedway's famous high banks. Each week's parade laps begin at approximately 8:05 p.m.
Show vehicles are parked in the NASCAR Nationwide Series garage at Atlanta Motor Speedway and all spectators can view the vehicles by accessing the infield via the pedestrian tunnel.
The 2014 Friday Night Drags season runs most Friday nights through Aug. 15, with the Fall Stampede taking place Sept. 12 and Sept. 19. Practice runs begin at 6:15 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 6:30 p.m. Show-N-Shine car show judging begins at 6:15 p.m. with a Speedway Parade at 8:05 p.m. Drag racing eliminations begin after 9 p.m.
All racers ages 16 and 17 must have a fully-executed minor's release form on file at the speedway prior to competition and forms are available at the speedway or at www.atlantamotorspeedway.com. Competitors must wear a DOT-approved helmet and have operational seat belts in their vehicle and pass a pre-race safety inspection.
Entry to drag race or for the Show-N-Shine is $20 or competitors can enter both for $30. Spectator admission is only $8 with children five and under free. Exterior parking is free, while infield parking is $20.
