Painting Of AdvoCare 500 Race Logos Taking Shape Saturday; Thank You Breakfast For Fans On Monday
Preparations for next week's AdvoCare 500 at Atlanta Motor Speedway are in full swing as painting crews descend on the property to transform the grass into works of art.The track will start to take on a familiar look as painting will begin along the front stretch of Atlanta Motor Speedway on Saturday. The race logos for the AdvoCare 500, Great Clips/Grit Chips 300 and the Tim Smith's Climax Moonshine Sprint Car Shootout will be painted freehand by Alan Jones of Jones Sign Co. in the grass along pit road.
"We have sprayers that will run a gallon a minute putting the paint down," said Jones. "We usually do the painting by color - we'll do each color once and it will include all the logos."
Jones, nicknamed "Rembrandt" by the AMS staff, has been painting the race logos as well as the NASCAR series logos at Atlanta Motor Speedway for over 20 years. Typically, as many as 2,000 gallons of paint are used over the six days it will take Jones to transform the front stretch.
The logos will start to take a recognizable shape at AMS between Monday and Tuesday. Jones will continue with touch-up and upkeep of the logos throughout the week and into the race.
