The excitement of heart-pounding short track racing and thrill of a spectacular fireworks display will take center stage this Thursday on the quarter-mile "Thunder Ring" with the final round of racing for the season.  After racing concludes, the speedway will celebrate a successful season of racing with one of Atlanta's largest fireworks shows of the summer with the Papa John's Pizza Fireworks Extravaganza. Atlanta Motor Speedway has contracted with Florida's Zambelli Fireworks to create a memorable cap to the 16th season of fun at Thursday Thunder.

Championship Chase Coming Down To The Wire

The closest points chase is in the Masters division. Albany's Skip Nichols, the all-time leader in victories at Thursday Thunder, leads the standings. In second place, four points behind is Tina Johnson of Senoia. Johnson is trying to become the fourth female to win a season points championship at Thursday Thunder. She will need to finish two positions ahead of Nichols in the feature race to win the division title.

After a strong showing in last week's double features, Charlotte's William Byron leads the Fun Junction Young Lions division by 13 points over Woodrow Mullis of Hoboken. Byron finished third in last week's first feature and won the second one.

Chandler Smith of Talking Rock leads the Bandits division but cannot afford to be complacent since Cartersville's Zach Leonhardi is 12 points out of the lead. Smith and Leonhardi have split all feature race victories this season.
