With points on the line for the first time in 2011, racers took to Atlanta Motor Speedway’s pit lane drag strip for the season points opener of Friday Night Drags and MCR Safety Show-N-Shine on Friday.

Senoia’s Chris Thompson picked the right time to earn his first final round victory at Friday Night Drags, picking up the win in the Truck Division driving a 1957 Chevrolet.

The Jersey Thunder Jet Car, a jet engine-powered dragster capable of reaching a speed of more than 225 mph in less than five seconds, also wowed fans before drag racing eliminations.

McDonough’s Mark White remains the only driver to have won at all five Friday Night Drags events of the season so far following his Super Pro Victory in his 1967 Shelby Mustang. Locust Grove’s Rodney Tolbert swept both the ATV and ATV Modified Divisions, winning on two separate Yamaha Banshees.
