The second half kickoff of Friday Night Drags & MCR Safety Show-N-Shine at Atlanta Motor Speedway offered a fresh start to every driver in the field, and many racers took the opportunity to get a leg up in the standings with a win.

With last week's mid-season championships crowning the first half points victors, the standings were wiped clean on Friday, giving drivers in all drag racing divisions a chance to earn their way toward a spot in the championship night activities on August 19. On that night, the first half champion will face the second half champion in a head-to-head competition to determine the overall season points champion.

Among the competitors getting the second half of the season off to a good start was the CB Insulation Racing Team, as the crowd saw two of the team's entrants take victory in the final round. In the Truck Advanced division, Danny Mason of Locust Grove claimed the win in his yellow 1968 Chevrolet, nicknamed the "Nuclear Banana." It was his fifth consecutive victory in 2011, and his fifth overall. Meanwhile, Mason's teammate Rusty Adams won the Pro division, as the Hampton native wheeled his 1991 Chevrolet S10 to his first win of the season.

McDonough's Ron Wiese, who fell short of a mid-season points championship in the Domestic division to Grayson's Gene Daniel last week, won his second race of the season in a 1988 Ford Mustang Coupe. Another driver aiming for a second half points title is Tony Morse. The Grantville native won his third race of 2011 with his 1990 Pontiac Trans-Am, as he looks to earn a match-up with first half Pro division champion Mark White of McDonough.
