The intense racing action continued at Atlanta Motor Speedway as racers attacked the track’s pit-lane drag strip in the second week of Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine.
Fans in attendance at the wildly popular drag racing series saw repeat winners from last Friday’s season opener in addition to prominent competitors winning in different vehicles than in the past.
Grantville’s Tony Morse, known by many drag racing fans as the driver of a 1990 Pontiac Trans-Am, claimed the final round win Friday driving a 1980 Chevy Malibu to win the Sportsman division.
Morse’s win also earned him bragging rights in the Sportsman Clash, as Sportsman division drivers were encouraged to take to the track to try and pick up an early-season victory.
Griffin’s Chris Wolfenbarger, who has in the past raced a 1970 Chevrolet C10, claimed the Truck Division win on Friday driving a 1946 Chevrolet.
A handful of drivers followed up on their success from the first week. Covington’s Darren Lewis won the Papa John’s Pizza Domestic Division for the second week in a row. Other repeat winners were David Harbin (Pro), Bobby Bramblett (Tuner), Ruben Quiambao (Sport Compact), Daniel Rice (ATV), Toney Freeman (Super Bike) and James Roberts (Sport Bike).
Another repeat winner was in the special Cadillac Only division in conjunction with the Cadillac Craze promotion with the Georgia Lottery. Clark Stoddard piloted his 2004 Cadillac CTSV to victory for the second week in a row. Doing so earned him 25 “Cadillac Riches” instant game tickets for the win, which could earn him up to $250,000 cash or a new Cadillac vehicle. Fans are encouraged to come out in their Cadillacs for the next three weeks of Friday Night Drags and race, or enter the special Cadillac Only division for Show-N-Shine judging.
Fans will also be treated to a special pizza discount through Papa John’s Pizza courtesy of a couple of racers on Friday. Both Mark White in the Super Pro division and Jon Stovall in the Domestic Advanced division piloted their red vehicles to victory lane. Doing so earned customers 50% of their online order at Papa John’s with the promo code 50RED through Sunday. The offer is valid at participating locations.
