Atlanta Motor Speedway today announced the schedule for the 2017 season of O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags.
The popular summertime program, which debuted as a grassroots, side-by-side drag racing series at Atlanta Motor Speedway in 2007, has grown into one of the largest organized weekly drag racing programs in the country. Racing on AMS's dual-lane pit road dragstrip in a single-elimination format every Friday night during the summer months, fans and racing enthusiasts are treated to 18 different classes of 1/8-mile racing.
The massive array of competing cars, trucks and motorcycles include everything from supercharged hot rods and rat rods, all the way down to daily drivers and stock vehicles seen navigating local streets every other day of the week. Trophies, bragging rights and season championship titles are all on the line as drivers of all ages and skill levels do battle each week.
The 2017 schedule for O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags will kick off with the season opener on Friday, April 28. The season will continue each Friday thereafter through Aug. 18 with the exception of May 26 in observance of Memorial Day Weekend, for a total of 16 scheduled dates. The official points opener will be June 2, and season champions will be crowned during the series' championship finale Aug. 18.
Participation in O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags is open to any automobile and driver possessing a valid driver's license for just $20. Registration gates open each week at 6 p.m. at the speedway's main infield tunnel, and all racing competitors must sign a safety waiver and wear a DOT-approved helmet.
Friday Night Drags also affords local car enthusiasts the opportunity to show off their prized vehicle in the weekly Show-N-Shine competition, with registration fees also just $20 apiece. Awards are given to each week's top vehicles in various categories. All Show-N-Shine entrants are invited to participate in each week's Speedway Cruise around Atlanta Motor Speedway's famous high banks. The weekly cruise begins at approximately 8:05 p.m.
Spectator admission to O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags is just $10 with children five and under free. Gates open at 6:30 p.m., and exterior parking is free, while infield parking is $20.
