Sibling Rivalry Among Attractions At Week Six of Thursday Thunder
The family-friendly atmosphere of the Thursday Thunder quarter-mile racing series at Atlanta Motor Speedway isn't just limited to the grandstands and the pit area. On any given Thursday night, a handful of sibling duos take to the track in U.S. Legends and Bandolero cars in a weekly battle for familial bragging rights.
One such duo, ten-year-old twins Will and Isabella Robusto, are spending much of their summer break from school competing against one another in the Thursday Thunder Bandits Division.
The youngsters got into the racing world thanks to their father, who raced when he was younger and now serves as dad, crew chief and coach extraordinaire. When asked what it's like racing against one another, the pair had few but telling words
"Fun," Isabella replied and, "Easy," said Will.
Through the first five weeks of the 2015 Thursday Thunder season, Will has notched back-to-back wins in Weeks 2 and 3 and has top-5 finishes every week to start the season, good for a second-place tie with Clay Thompson in the Bandits Division points race entering Week 6.
Meanwhile, Isabella has posted a respectable four top-5 finishes and sits in fourth place entering Week 6, just 19 points behind her brother and 34 off the lead.
Other Thursday Thunder sibling duos include Taylor and Jensen Jorgensen in the Allred Family Dentistry Semi-Pro/Young Lions Division and Connor and Ryan Younginer in the Xtreme Fun on Wheels Outlaws Division and Beginner Bandolero Division respectively.
On-track competition will ratchet up on Thursday, as just three weeks remain in the eight-week summer series. Three of four divisional championship points races are separated at the top by just 15 points, and challengers will look to zero in on the leaders this week.
Thursday's Week 6 competition hits the track in an official INEX regional qualifier, as drivers race for valuable points in pursuit of a berth in the U.S. Legends and Bandolero Nationals later this year.
Grandstand tickets for the affordable, family-friendly racing series cost just $6 for adults, $2 for kids ages 6 through 11, and is free for children ages 5 and younger.
