Speedway Children's Charities will play host to the Geranium Festival 5k Run on Saturday, May 1 in McDonough.
The Geranium Festival 5k Run will begin at the JC Penny of McDonough on Highway 20 West at 7:30 a.m. Runners will be provided an official event t-shirt and are invited to enjoy food, drinks and festivities following the run. Awards will be presented to the top finishers in each age group.
Registration for the event is $20 in advance or $25 on the day of the event and proceeds will benefit Speedway Children's Charities, Atlanta Motor Speedway's in-house charitable organization. Runners can register online at www.GeorgiaRunner.com. Registration will begin on site at 6:30 a.m. on the day of the event.
In addition to the Geranium Festival 5k run, a one-mile fun run and a Sunshine League Dash will be made available to those not interested in participating in a full 5k event. Each participant in the ages 10 and younger age group will receive a ribbon for participating.
The event is sponsored by Atlanta Heart Associates and WEKS 92.5 FM "The Bear" will be hosting a live broadcast at the event.
The Geranium Festival 5k Run will take place two weeks before the event's namesake, the 32nd-annual Geranium Festival in McDonough on Saturday, May 15. The free event celebrates locally-grown flowers and the community and takes place in McDonough Square.
