Atlanta Motor Speedway is bringing back straight-line speed and short-track racing for the summer and providing affordable family-friendly entertainment for local race fans with the return of Thursday Thunder and Friday Night Drags, the Speedway's summer racing series.
Summer points racing begins at Atlanta Motor Speedway during the first week of June with Thursday Thunder and Friday Night Drags kicking off 2010 points season on June 3 and 4 respectively. Both series feature multiple classes of competitive racing, weekly entertainment options and affordable prices for fans.
Thursday Thunder is entering its 13th season and each week features seven classes of Legends, Bandolero and Thunder Roadster racing, in addition to family entertainment that includes concourse activities, grandstand games and weekly driver autograph sessions. Entertainment during the nine-week season includes kids' candy and coin scrambles, a belly flop contest, kids' Power Wheels and bike races, and the annual Faster Pastor race between local church leaders.
Thursday Thunder racing on Atlanta Motor Speedway's "Thunder Ring" has proven to be a training ground for future NASCAR stars, a fact that speaks to the series' quality of racing. Former Thunder champions Joey Logano and David Ragan are current NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stars, while Reed Sorenson is currently competing in the Nationwide Series. Other current NASCAR drivers to race on Atlanta's "Thunder Ring" include Bill Elliott, John Wes Townley, Chrissy Wallace and Steve Wallace.
Entering the event's fourth-full season, the Friday Night Drags schedule has again been expanded to feature 17 dates to meet growing interest that averages 225 competitors, 90 show cars and nearly 5,000 fans each night. After three early-season, non-points practice dates, Friday Night Drags opens on June 4 with its first points event and will feature 15 classes of street-style drag racing on Atlanta Motor Speedway's pit lane drag strip.
Adult tickets to Thursday Thunder are $5 and children ages six to 11 are just $1, while ages five and under are admitted free of charge. Exterior parking is free for Thursday Thunder.

Entry to drag race or for the Show-N-Shine is $20 or fans can enter both events for $30. Exterior parking is free for Friday Night Drags and fans can also pay $20 to park on the AMS Infield.
