SYLVANIA Silverstar® zXe Global Rallycross Atlanta News & Notes
Saturday's SYLVANIA Silverstar® zXe Global Rallycross Atlanta won't be the first time in the spotlight for Steve Arpin. The Canadian driver has raced in the NASCAR Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series, ARCA, USAC Silvercrown in addition to winning seven snowmobile racing championships.
"I don't think that there is anything that can prepare you for driving these things," Arpin said. "They have so much horsepower for how light they are."
Despite a varied racing background, Arpin says none of that can ready a driver for racing in GRC and its turbocharged cars competing on courses made up of dirt, gravel, water, ramps and chicanes.
Arpin, who most recently competed in NASCAR in 2012 for JR Motorsports in the Nationwide Series, says that the biggest difference between GRC and NASCAR is the sense of urgency.
"We don't have one second to relax," Arpin said. "When that green light comes on, your elbows better be up and you better be ready to go racing."
