Atlanta Motor Speedway’s Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine returns to the eighth-mile pit-lane drag strip this Friday night, Aug. 10. Double points will be on the line for drag racers as the regular season enters its second-to-last week.
Only two weeks of racing remain in the summer series, and several close points battles continue ahead to the championship night, Aug. 17. With double points being up for grabs this week, it’ll be an intense night of drag racing at AMS. Drivers that lag behind in the standings could use a good run to propel themselves into a championship night showdown, while those atop the standings will be looking to put the hammer down and put some cushion room between themselves and the rest of the field. While several different agendas will play out this Friday night, each driver will be chasing the same goal: a Friday Night Drags trophy to take home at the end of the night.
Many divisions feature close races at the top of the points standings. In Street Outlaw competition, Williamson’s Daryl Stiles clings to a one point lead over Jason Thomas from Stockbridge. This division has been one of the more fiercely-competitive divisions all season, and looks to continue that all the way to the end of the year.
Buddy Patrick of Stockbridge and Molina’s Allen Gaddis sit tied atop the standings in the Truck division. Patrick has claimed three wins so far in 2012, meaning another win would cause the three win rule to go into effect, which would cause him to move up a division in competition.
And it’s not just the four-wheeled cars getting in on the exciting racing action. The ATV division is playing host to a one point battle between Zebulon resident Justin Wooten and Bradley Smith of Griffin, with Wooten currently on top of the battle.
This Week and Upcoming at Friday Night Drags
This week’s Friday Night Drags will feature the recognition of Mid-Season Points Champions that were determined on July 13 with the series’ week 11 action.
Papa John’s Pizza will be present to hand out 100 gift cards to the first 100 people who buy two or more tickets at the gate on the final night of the series’ Fall Stampede on Friday, Sept. 21. That night will also feature free pork sandwiches and chicken tenders, courtesy of Shane’s Rib Shack.
With family-friendly activities that everyone can be a part of, Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine is a full evening of family fun and at a great bargain.
