Atlanta Motor Speedway will celebrate the Fourth of July with an evening of competitive drag racing and the largest fireworks display on Atlanta's southside on Friday with the Papa John's Pizza Fireworks Extravaganza.

The massive, sky-illuminating display will welcome spectators as the Speedway conducts its annual celebration of America's independence.

The fireworks will begin at approximately 9 p.m. The entire fireworks display will be viewable from either Atlanta Motor Speedway's grandstands or infield. Admission is $8 per person and free for kids ages 5 & under. Infield parking is $20 per vehicle.

Fans Can Win $250 Cash Prize

All fans attending this week’s round of O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags and Papa John’s Pizza Fireworks Extravaganza will have the chance to win $250.

Spectators can enter to win at the Speedway information booth located on the main grandstand concourse. The winner will be contacted via e-mail or phone.

Points Events Holding More Weight

With the halfway mark of points events nearing at O’Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags, each week becomes more important for drivers’ hopes of winning a season championship within their division.

One such division is the case is the Domestic Advanced Division where Hampton’s Jason Kinard and Locust Grove’s Terry Bates are engaged in a back-and-forth battle for the top spot. Kinard, who drives a 1997 Chevrolet S10, currently leads the division standings ahead of Bates, who drives a 1988 Ford Mustang. Kinard’s win against Bates in last Friday’s final round elimination moved him past Bates into first place.

The 2014 Friday Night Drags season runs most Friday nights through August. 15, with the Fall Stampede taking place September. 12 and September. 19. Practice runs begin at 6:15 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 6:30 p.m. Show-N-Shine car show judging begins at 6:15 p.m. with a Speedway Parade at 8:05 p.m. Drag racing eliminations begin after 9 p.m.

Drag Racing is open to any licensed driver. Competitors must wear a DOT-approved helmet and have operational seat belts in their vehicle. All racers ages 16 and 17 must have a fully-executed minor’s release form on file at the speedway prior to competition. Fand forms are available at the speedway Speedway or at

Entry to drag race or for the Show-N-Shine is $20 or competitors can enter both for $30. Spectator admission is only $8 with children five and under free. Exterior parking is free while, iwhile infield parking is $20.

Fans are reminded that Atlanta Motor Speedway offers a non-smoking grandstand. Smoking is allowed in designated areas behind the grandstands as well asor the infield at Atlanta Motor Speedway, but not in the grandstands, concourse or seating areas.
