Many of the 18 street drag racing divisions feature close championship races. Drivers are tied for the lead in four divisions with two others seeing first two places separated by only one point. The Friday Night Drags points system awards four points for a final-round win, three for a runner-up finish, two for drivers losing in their division's semifinal round and a point to all other drivers making a pass down the track during eliminations.

In the event of a tie following Friday's final round, the champion will be determined by virtue of most final-round victories in this season's points events.Stockbridge's Bobby Daniel leads Canton's Michael Ramsey by one point in the super pro division. Mike Gregory of Riverdale holds a single-point advantage over Griffin's Kane Shavers in street modified.

In the pro division, Locust Grove's Alan Kidd and McDonough's David Craft have been the top two drivers all season long. Both drivers enter this week tied for the lead.

Other divisions with drivers knotted in first place are domestic advanced with Terry Bates of Locust Grove and Sharpsburg's Stephen DeFayette atop the standings. Jason Kinard of Zebulon is in third place, trailing by a point, setting up a three-way race for the division championship.

The truck division sees Riverdale's James Ragsdale and Stockbridge's Buddy Patrick deadlocked. In the tuner division, Griffin's Nicolas Feliciano and Dustin Ponder of Brooks are tied for first place.

Fireworks Display This Week Prior To Drag Racing Eliminations

A season of exciting racing will be capped this week at Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine with the crowning of season champions and a spectacular fireworks display.

The fireworks will take place at approximately 9:15 p.m. Zambelli Fireworks of Pennsylvania will be on hand to provide another crowd-pleasing fireworks show.

Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine return Sept. 13 and Sept. 20 for the Fall Stampede portion of the 2013 season. Practice runs begin at 6:15 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 6:30 p.m. Show-N-Shine car show judging begins at 6:15 p.m. with a track cruise at 8:05 p.m. Drag racing eliminations begin at 9:15 p.m.

All racers ages 16 and 17 must have a fully-executed minor's release form on file at the speedway prior to competition and forms are available at the speedway or at Competitors must wear a DOT-approved helmet and have operational seat belts in their vehicle and pass a pre-race safety inspection.

Entry to drag race or for the Show-N-Shine is $20 or competitors can enter both for $30. Spectator admission is only $8 with children five and under free. Exterior parking is free, while infield parking is $20.
