Week 2 of the popular O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine revs up this Friday on the pit lane drag strip at Atlanta Motor Speedway to kick off the Month of May.

With more than 150 vehicles racing in last week's opening night, the competition was nonstop. One after another, tight races featured fast, loud and powerful vehicles exploding off the line as the starting lights turned green. From super bikes to super pros and factory street cars to trucks, a lofty standard was set early in what is already shaping into a highly intense street drag racing season at AMS.

Among notable returning drivers, Bobby Daniel of Stockbridge, winner of the Super Pro Division title in 2010, cruised to a victory in his 1995 Chevy Lumina "Batmobile" in the Harbin's Mechanical Services Super Pro Division in Week 1, while David Clevenger of Hampton scored his first win of the season behind the wheel of a 1986 Chevy Corvette in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Pro Division.

Another returnee from previous seasons, Griffin's Nicolas Feliciano, outran the competition in the Street Outlaw Division in Week 1 in a 1984 Mazda RX7, and high school teenager Micah Patrick of Stockbridge set the bar for the Truck Division in a 1955 Willy's, his first win, as the grassroots style drag racing kicked off its ninth season.

The competition will ratchet up this Friday in Week 2 of O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags, as summer rivalries begin to take shape. Non-points competition continues through May 15 in all-out, nothing-to-lose races that promise to supply can't-miss high-speed thrills as one of the country's most popular side-by-side street drag racing series heats up the track

The street-style drag racing series features grassroots competition in 18 different divisions with a massive array of cars, trucks and motorcycles. Competing vehicles range from supercharged cars to stock vehicles and daily drivers. Contenders battle in a nightly, single-elimination tournament for trophies, bragging rights and season championship points.

While the competition is often fierce, it is easy for anyone to try their hand at street drag racing at O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags. There is no limit to the vehicles that can race, and previous drag racing experience is not required. Each vehicle participating is entered into an appropriate division with similar vehicles for the most competitive racing possible.

Participation in drag racing or the Show-N-Shine competition is available each for an entry fee of $20. Combo pricing to participate in both is just $30. Vehicles entered to drag race are required to have a working seat belt, and each driver must wear a DOT-approved helmet to race.

Spectator admission is just $8, with children 5 and under admitted free. Exterior parking is free, and infield parking is $20.

O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags will take place each Friday through Aug. 28, with the exception of May 22, for a total of 18 dates in 2015.
