Patrick Family Turning Heads at O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine
Week 4 of O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags & Show-N-Shine at Atlanta Motor Speedway takes to the pit lane drag strip this Friday night, and there is one set of brothers who are already making a name for themselves.
Micah and Buddy Patrick both have already turned heads early in the season. Micah won the Truck Division in the opening week behind the wheel of his 1955 Willys pickup, his first ever drag racing win, and Buddy became an instant favorite in Week 3 with his uniquely modified panel wagon.
"Me and my dad built it," said Buddy. "It was his dad's for about 20 years, and we got it back about five years ago."
The 1948 Willys certainly brings the looks to the drag strip, but the nearly 70-year-old truck also packs a punch off the line. In its 2015 O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags debut, Buddy wowed the crowd with an impressive wheelstand and rare photo opportunity for those quick enough on the shutter.
But it's more than just the thrill of the ride that keeps these brothers coming back each week, and there's no doubt that family is top of mind.
"My dad's actually in the hospital having a heart transplant operation," said Buddy. "Maybe I'll get a trophy and bring it to him."
It's the same thought Micah had two weeks earlier following his Truck Division victory in Week 1: "He wished could have been here."
The Patricks and others will look to notch victories in Week 4 of O'Reilly Auto Parts Friday Night Drags. Driver Billy Clevenger will be looking for a third straight win behind the wheel of his red 1963 Chevrolet Corvette in the Harbin's Mechanical Services Super Pro Division, while Keith Johnson tries for his second victory of the season in the Summit Racing Equipment Sportsman Division.
In the ever-popular Diesel Truck Division, smoke will rise, as three different drivers have claimed victories in each of the first three weeks of the season. Plus, more than 60 cars are registered to race in the ultra-competitive Harding Plumbing, Heating and Cooling Domestic Division.
Friday marks the final night of non-points competition and a last chance tune-up before official points racing begins May 29. But there's a lot more to it than points and bragging rights for Micah and Buddy Patrick.
"Just making my dad proud," Buddy said of what he has planned for Week 4.
